Description

The six demonstrators of the project are a unique opportunity to test practical Use Cases of selected standards in order to reach a common European understanding of the needs and benefits for data exchanges between smart grid components.

This will in turn foster the deployment of interchangeable and interoperable equipments, thus leading to a growing confidence in new pieces of equipments using such standards.

To learn from the use of standards using the demonstrations:

          • DSOs and manufacturers will agree on an implementation plan based on new standards in line with smartening the Grid
          • User’s group in the demonstrations will develop on the costs and benefits observed in real life against the ex ante cost/benefit appraisal to choose the standards for the demonstrations
          • Standards organizations will be informed about the finding

Main objectives

  • To define the most recent standards potentially applicable to the six demonstration definitions, based on on-going work in several standardization bodies followed by the participating DSOs and manufacturers and dealing with
    • Standardization of ICT and  communication protocols
    • Equipment interoperability
    • Data exchange standards
    • Network architecture standards
    • Cyber security
  • To validate ex-ante and qualitatively  with the demonstration participants, the benefits and costs of implementing the appropriate standards  with a view of easing future scaling up and replication tasks, using the DIGITAL (Distribution Grid Intelligence Integration Laboratory) platform, which is part of the Distributed Energy Resources Research Infrastructure (DERRI)
  • To select a set of standards which will be implemented  and compared within several operational demonstrations
  • To monitor their implementation in each of the demonstrations with a specific attention paid with their use within existing technology configurations
  • To draw periodic conclusions about the practical issues faced by DSOs and manufacturers when using standards on existing architectures and equipments
  • To feed the lessons learnt during the demonstrations nack to the standardization bodies
